English Language Institute

Teaching English as a Language Assistant at the University of Florida English Language Institute

What is a Language Assistant?

As a Language Assistant, I taught the listening and speaking portion of the English as a second language curriculum. This means that I created lesson plans, crafted engaging activities and vocabulary, and fostered a safe learning environment for students coming from a multitude of countries. I also facilitated weekly activities that gave students the chance to practice English and learn about American culture. Many students are preparing to attend a Ph.D. or masters program after perfecting their English, but some students begin with a basic knowledge of English. It is so rewarding to help them grow!

My favorite part of being a Language Assistant was engaging with students and learning more about each of their native countries and cultures. Everyone is so accepting and curious of each other's traditions, foods and more! See the pictures below for some of my favorite memories at the ELI!
