Women, Leadership and Diversity in the Global Environment
This course was fascinating in regards to both the information I learned about the global society, but also what I learned to grow myself as a leader! My eyes were opened to a lot of different factors that can affect how one is viewed in the workplace. For example, different cultures and countries approach diversity in the workplace in contrasting ways. It was important for me to understand this as I could be interacting with individuals from all over the world and it is key to establishing respect and good relations. I also learned how to strengthen my leadership skills through introspection and leadership strategies.

Biodiversity Conservation: Global Perspectives
As an animal sciences student, I found this wildlife course and the one below very interesting. We started by learning about conservation, biodiversity and genetics to understand the basis of these concepts. We also reviewed evolution and history of biodiversity and conservation throughout the world. Then we dove into the future implications of conservation and how societies around the globe have handled things differently. I had no idea the real importance of biodiversity to maintaining a healthy environment before taking this course. Cultures and countries have varying approaches and views on this topic as well which makes global collaboration difficult at times.

WIS 2040
Wildlife Issues in a Changing World
Similar to the prior wildlife course, this course began by educating students on ecology, conservation, and the basis of evolution and genetics that have influenced the wild over time. From here, we explored issues that have come about regarding changes to the environment mainly due to anthropogenic actions. It is saddening, but also something that must be discussed in order to move forward. Again, many countries and cultures have varying perspectives on how to handle situations and this makes global collaboration very difficult.

Meeting the Other: An Intercultural Approach to Dutch Culture and Society
I took this course at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. It was a unique course in that it was a combination of both native Dutch students and international students. I initially thought that the course would only speak on Dutch culture, but many other topics on how people create images and perspectives of themselves and others were included. I also did get to learn a lot about Dutch culture and politics. Most of my other study abroad friends did not get to dive into Dutch culture as much, but it was very useful for navigating day to day life. Also, meeting Dutch students and having a cultural exchange was quite fun! They were always interested in what the American had to say
